Be Love
“Everyone is fighting some sort of battle” a phrase that is seemingly cliche in today’s society. I’ve sat with countless people at the end of their days, witnessing all walks of life go through the journey of the final passage.
Through this life calling of mine, working in the realm of death and dying, I have learned and leaned into what it truly means to be a compassionate human. Watching families experience death for the first time, on the edge of their seat not knowing when the final breath of their loved one will be taken. Not knowing how to be in the presence of death.
Some rooms are filled with anxiety while others are others are calm and peaceful. Some people are surrounded by friends and family while others are empty. Some have altars and rituals of prayer.
I felt a tug on my heart, a palpable sadness for a woman who briskly walked off the hospital unit with tear filled eyes, chanting and praying under her breath with a book in her hands. Alone she sat in the booth perpendicular to me. Grief, sadness, sorrow radiated outward on a trail of angst. Hoping and praying for her loved one’s health.
We walk past a multitude of humans every day and we have no idea what any of them are experiencing…
We don’t know who is at their wits end.
Who just had a baby and lost someone in the same breath.
If someone has been fired and another received a promotion.
If someone is going through a divorce while a couple just got engaged.
Wherever you are…be kind…be present…and most importantly be love.
